Cape Jaffa Lighthouse

Kingston Se, SA

Address: Marine Parade, Kingston Se SA 5275

    About Cape Jaffa Lighthouse

After many years of service, the Cape Jaffa Lighthouse was successfully transferred from its rocky offshore platform and rebuilt built in the town of Kingston as a tourist attraction. The relocated lighthouse now serves as a museum and provides an insight into South Australia's and the region's maritime history. In particular, it presents in detail the sometimes difficult lives of the keepers and their families who lived for up to 3 months at a time in the lighthouse. The reef on which the lighthouse stood was rarely exposed and families were confined to their living quarters. Children would have to be kept quiet during the day while the keepers slept after being on duty during the night. During its working life, the Cape Jaffa Lighthouse played an important role in the development of the region and the state and its story will be of interest to both the history enthusiast and the casual visitor alike.
