Captain Charles Sturt's passage through Narrandera on 12 December 1829 is recorded on a memorial where the explorer's party passed on their epic journey along the Murrumbidgee River.
Local lore has it that Sturt marked a tree on the site of this memorial, which is situated at Narrandera on the northern bank of the Murrumbidgee River just west of the Newell Highway at the entrance to the Narrandera Wetlands.
